GA 3324 : Character Modeling

This course covers advanced modeling techniques for building 3 dimensional characters. Students wil explore techniques of character modeling to include various approaches to figure construction.

<------For EVERY project submitted this quarter, you will be asked to use the NAMING CONVENTION Resource Guide (click on the image on the left of this text) for all of your files. Not using the guide will result in a deduction of points from your grade.
You will also be asked to use the Charactermaker Pro for Project 1b. --------------------->

Project 1a: 35 points You will be creating an anatomically correct human/humanoid model with appropriate proportions and edgeflow. Every student will start off with provided orthos and skeleton. From there they will create a nurbs maquette for the muscle and fat. The final topology will be built around this.

Week 1: Creating a full body Character Maquette, edgeloops, smooth proxy, subdiv surfaces, creating usable character orthos.

Week 2: Modeling Facial Features, muscles of the face and head, creating ears, building eyeballs, using lattices and the soft deform tool
Week 3: A study of Torso anatomy and contruction, major muscle groups, extruding and lofting limbs.
Week 4: Feet, Hands, Extruding from Curves, The Sculpt Geometry Tool, how to render wireframes... and LAB time
Week 5: Midterm Critique Due at the begining of class in week 5 are 3 wireframe renders of your Anatomical Human/Humanoid character and 3 regular, well-lit renders of the character. click the link for more info.

Project 1b: 30 points you will be continuing the anatomical model from the first half of the quarter. Now however, you will asked to create clothes, hair, and a sculpt and any other details needed to individualize your model based on your Charactermaker Pro outcome.
